Events
Plenty of good times are to be had participating in, or being a spectator to events that place in the Delta. Some are small-town affairs steeped in heritage and with a definite regional flavor. Others are staged by yacht clubs, and some are staged by Marinas / Resorts owners with an eye toward creating good will and increased traffic.

For information, check with the appropriate chamber of commerce, yacht club, resort owner, et catera. Some event dates may vary from one year to the next.

  • Frozen Bun Run, a New Year's morning water ski run at Rusty Porthole, at Boyd's Harbor.
  • San Francisco Sports & Boat Show, San Francisco, Jan. 14 - 23 Cow Palace

February
  • Isleton Chinese New Year's Celebration, two days of lion dancers, rickshaw races and fun in Isleton's Chinatown.

  • March
  • St. Patrick's Day Party, the wearing of the green and corned beef and cabbage on the menu at Tower Park Marina.

  • April
  • Opening Day Boat Parade, a splendid decorated boat parade around Bethel Island, usually 2nd Saturday , by the San Joaquin Yacht Club. Other opening day parades in the Delta by Bridge Marina YC, Sportsmen YC, Driftwood YC, Discovery Bay YC, Stockton YC, Pittsburgh YC, and Stockton Sailing Club.
    • April 1st - Stockton Yacht Club Opening Day Parade
    • April 8th - Bethel Island Opening Day Parade
    • April 15th - Antioch Opening Day Parade
    • April 22nd - City of Petaluma Opening Day Parade

  • Discovery Bay Boat Show.
  • DeltaFest & Boat Show at Tower Park Marina, May 14 - 16.
  • Catfish Derby & Deep Fry at Mossdale Marina, May 15.
  • Opening Day Parade, a fine decorated boat parade the first Sunday in May by the Sacramento YC. Boats parade from the clubhouse to the American River and back.
  • Safe Boating Day, at Harris Yacht Harbor in Bay Point, with music, BBQ, carnival, fishing, crafts booths and more, May 22.
  • Sacramento Dixieland Jazz Jubilee, runs for four days Memorial Day Weekend, with bands from around the world. Dixieland's everywhere around Old Sacramento & beyond.

  • June
  • Isleton Crawdad Festival, a weekend of great fun in this Sacramento River hamlet, with a carnival, food booths galore, a parade, arts & crafts and many contests, on Father's Day weekend.
  • South Tower Race, a grueling sailboat race from Stockton to the Golden Gate Bridge and back, by Stockton Sailing Club.

  • July
  • 4th of July Events
    • Hilton's Fireworks, a spectacular fireworks display off Mandeville Tip, compliments of Hilton Hotels. Thousands of boaters are in attendance and anchored out for this gala event.
    • Antioch Fireworks, usually fired from a barge off downtown's Riverview Lodge, 925-757-1800.
    • Pittsburgh Fireworks over the water, 925-432-7301.
    • All American Water Feast, a day of food, music, entertainment, carnival and a grand fireworks display over the water, at the Stockton waterfront, 209-464-5246.
    • Rio Vista Fireworks, at the city waterfront
    • July 4th Festival, at Suisun City Marina, live music, crafts, food, kiddie carnival, evening fireworks over the harbor, 707-429-2628.
  • Wimpy's Annual Poker Run, a spectacular boat run for those who like to gamble and gambol, with 500 participating. Live music, food, staged by Wimpy's Marina.
  • Courtland Pear Fair, a down-home event at the parade, food booths, arts and crafts, contests, and pear drinks and food. In the Sacramento River town of Courtland.

  • August
  • Alligator Races, food, fun and music racing aboard inflatable alligators at Haven Acres Resort in Lathrop.
  • Walnut Grove Catfish Jubilee, with music, food & crafts booths, and racing of catfish in downtown Walnut Grove, last Sunday of the month.
  • Bethel Island 50s Bash, with hundreds of fine old cars, arts & crafts, food, dancing, in downtown area and at main marinas.
  • Franks Tract Regatta, a weekend of sailboat racing on Franks Tract by the Andrea's Cove Yacht Club.

  • September
  • 7th Annual Delta Big Dog Poker Run September 11, at Riverboat II.Tickets are $45 and includes breakfast, T-shirt, Prime Rib dinner. 1st place is $1000.
  • Delta Chambers MOO-B-Q, a barbecue extravaganza at Tower Park Marina, a fund-raiser for Delta Chambers with dazzling auction bargains, food, music, dancing and fun. Many free prizes.
  • New York Landing Sea Food Festival, a gala affair with some of northern California's finest chefs. Plenty of good seafood to eat, on Pittsburgh waterfront.
  • Antioch Rivertown Jamboree, food booths, arts & crafts and many other activities along the Antioch waterfront.
  • Fishing Clinics & Seminars, with all the experts, at Hap's Bait in Rio Vista.

  • October
  • Rio Vista Bass Derby, a fine 3-day derby with a carnival, Sunday parade down main St., food booths, queen contest and more.
  • Wimpy's End of Summer Bash!, B.B.Q., live music, and Door Prizes!
  • Boats On The Boardwalk, an outstanding show of classic runabouts along the Old Sacramento Boardwalk near the Delta King.
  • Driftwood Y.C. Make-A-Wish Cruise, cruise with dinner, music, fun, with proceeds to this worthwhile charity.
  • Halloween Parties, at Windmill Cove, Tower Park, Haven Acres Resort, Happy Harbor, Frank's Cove and other Delta watering holes.

  • November
  • Thanksgiving Week Fishing Derby, a big week-long derby by the Bethel Island Chamber with many excellent prizes, food, queen contest and more.
  • Bethel Island Fishing Clinic, learn from the experts of C.S.B.A., usually weekend prior to the Thanksgiving Derby. 925-684-3220

  • Delta Reflections Lighted Boat Christmas Parade, dazzling lighted boat Christmas parade to the Channel head in Stockton from Fourteen-mile Slough by the Marina West YC. 209-474-6992

  • Antioch Delta Delites Lighted Boat Christmas Parade, by Bridge Marina YC cruises down to Antioch and back. 925-706-1187
  • Bethel Island Parade of Lights, by the San Joaquin YC. Starts at dusk in front of YC and runs clockwise around the island. 925-684-3220
  • Oxbow Marina Lighted Boat Christmas Parade, runs down Georgiana Slough to Hwy 12 bridge, then back. 916-777-6060
  • Discovery Bay YC Lighted Boat Christmas Parade, winds its way through the development's water ways. 925-634-1210
